NSFAS Application for 2026 is now Open

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) application for 2026 is now open. Students looking to apply for financial assistance are encouraged to submit their applications as early as possible. Stay informed and make sure to meet all deadlines to secure funding for your studies.

NSFAS provides financial aid to disadvantaged students from poor and working-class households who meet the eligibility criteria to study at public universities or TVET colleges.

Who qualifies for funding?

You qualify for an NSFAS bursary if you are a South African citizen who plans to study in 2026, or you are already studying at a public university or TVET college, and you meet the required eligibility criteria.

South African citizens or permanent residents

SASSA grant recipients

Applicants whose combined gross household income is not more than R350 000 per year

Persons with disabilities whose combined gross household income is not more than R600 000 per year

Applicants must have an email address and cellphone number

What does NSFAS cover?

Once your funding application becomes successful, NSFAS may cover the following study-related costs.
