Who qualifies for funding?
First-time applicants must generally be 30 years old or younger and meet the required academic and admission criteria.
Be a South African citizen with a valid identity
number.
Be 30 years old or younger.
Have no other teaching qualification.
Have good academic ability and qualify for admission
to bachelor’s degree studies.
Be accepted into an approved B.Ed. or PGCE
programme.
Be committed and enthusiastic about a professional
teaching career.
What does the bursary cover?
The Funza Lushaka Bursary provides financial support for approved study expenses, subject to the applicable institution and bursary conditions.

Prescribed books and learning materials
Living allowance
Practical teaching expenses
Computer and other allowances, subject to policy
Travel costs in approved exceptional circumstances
How to apply
Follow the steps below to complete your Funza Lushaka application.

Open the e-Government portal or the official Funza Lushaka application website.

Register by providing your personal information.

Log in using the username and password created during registration.

Select the Funza Lushaka Bursary Scheme from the e-Services menu.

Enter the one-time PIN received through your chosen communication channel.

Accept the terms and conditions.

Select the current application option on the dashboard.

Complete all required fields and upload the requested supporting information.

Accept the declaration and submit your application.

Important to know
Bursary recipients are normally required to teach in a public school for the same number of years for which they received funding.
